Shortlist

Chris Cowdrey is the eldest son of Lord Cowdrey, one of the great names of English cricket. Like his father, Chris is a former Kent and England captain. He is a popular, natural leader and has distinguished himself in the worlds of cricket, business and broadcasting.

He was educated at Tonbridge School in Kent and as a schoolboy, captained Young England on a victorious tour of West Indies. Whilst still only 16 years old, he played in the 2nd X1 for Kent County Cricket Club. Chris became a professional with Kent in 1976 and was awarded his County Cap in 1979. He was Kent Captain from 1985 to 1990. Chris was awarded Testimonial year in 1989 for his services to cricket. Chris played all five test matches on David Gower's successful England tour of India and Australia in 1984 - 85. With only his fourth ball in Test cricket he took the wicket of Kapil Dev in Bombay.

In 1988 he was appointed Captain of England, though sadly, injury prevented his progress. After sixteen years with Kent, he had one season with Glamorgan before retiring in 1992. He had scored more than 12,000 runs and taken more than 300 wickets, but above all he will be remembered as one of the great fielders of his era in any position.

Chris became a regular member of BBC Radio 4's Test Match Special team before moving to TalkSport as the lead cricket presenter alongside Geoffrey Boycott. He has recently joined Sky Television as a specialist summariser. He is much in demand as one of the most humorous public speakers, a regular Master of Ceremonies and a top class auctioneer.

As a result of his expertise as a former England cricket Captain, he is well qualified to speak on leadership and motivational skills. He also speaks at many golf days, playing off a handicap of 7 at Sunningdale Golf Club.

"The audience found Chris's tales both interesting and amusing and we are looking forward to seeing him at our next event.  He is a very nice guy."  Touchwave Media  (Chris was the after-dinner speaker at the Pump Industry Awards)
